Legendary Inter forward Ruben Sosa has reflected on the time he spent with Inter and admitted that he feels lucky to have been part of the Nerazzurri.

“Lazio was the team that opened the doors of Serie A to me, Inter was my second Italian team and the strongest team that I played for,” the former Uruguayan national team player explained in an interview with Italian news outlet SuperNews.

“Many great players played at Inter, many of them foreigners, it is a team that has won a lot. I was lucky to have been a striker at the club.

“With the Nerazzurri I scored many goals, we won a UEFA Cup in 1994, we almost won the Scudetto the year before.

“I met champions like Bergomi, Zenga, Ferri, Berti, Totò Schillaci, Jonk and I was lucky enough to play at Meazza, which was an incredible feeling. It was a wonderful three years.”

He was then asked what he makes of the squad currently at the disposal of Inter manager Antonio Conte.

“I often follow Inter and Lazio, my two former teams. I am very attached to these clubs, I wish they would soon win any trophy.

“The Nerazzurri are those closest to the top of the standings, to conquer the Scudetto. Inter is a team born to compete.

“They are always expected to win, be it the Scudetto, the Champions League or Coppa Italia. I think the Nerazzurri team is full of great champions.

He continued: “Conte should build a compact and united team in order to find real continuity, trying to give more space also to South Americans.

“Alexis Sanchez plays little, whilst Diego Godin was sold. Inter, with their squad, their history and their fans, cannot play a game or two well and then play badly in the following games. They must maintain a balance.”

Sosa joined Inter in 1992 from Lazio and spent the next three years of his career with Inter, during which time he arguably played the greatest football of his 24 year playing career.

During his three year spell with the club, the now 54-year-old, made 104 appearances across all competitions in which he scored 50 goals and provided a total of 11 assists for his teammates.

Sosa left Inter for Borussia Dortmund and also played for the likes of Nacional, Shanghai Shenhua and Racing Club de Montevideo before retiring in 2006.
