Inter coach Antonio Conte discussed the Nerazzurri’s important 2-0 win over Genoa earlier today in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia after the game.

First, he spoke about if the win was one that required patience.

“We dominated the game from the beginning, as we always try to do. Sometimes the game is unlocked early, sometimes late.

“I think that even against Borussia Monchengladbach we had a great match and we conceded two goals, a penalty and a goal with a wrong ball. Today zero goals conceded. We came here with the strength of a conscious team.”

He highlighted how sometimes conceding a goal or two is not a grave error but just a small mistake.

“The problem is when you concede a lot, but if you concede goals from one or two shots it means that the balance is there and maybe there are mistakes.

“It is not that we are crazy and we all go out on the attack. You talk about numbers, I make a cold and precise analysis. It’s normal.”

The 51-year-old Italian touched on the offensive prowess of defender Alessandro Bastoni and how Serbian veteran Aleksandar Kolarov needs to be given time to prove himself.

“He has worked for a year and knows perfectly when we attack. Time should be given to newcomers like Kolarov. It’s normal, there are situations that need to be tried and tried again, a job that is normally done in a month of training, we are doing it in official matches.

“But I am very happy with Kolarov because he has brought experience, personality and can play even on the outside. Ranocchia, Darmian, they all played great games.

“Andrea hadn’t played for a long time and it seemed like he had to leave, but when you are serious and you work in a certain way these are the results.”

The former Juventus and Chelsea boss then spoke about star striker Romelu Lukaku, who scored against the Rossoblu today.

“Today Romelu is a different player than a year ago. He has grown up. I have always talked about a ‘rough diamond’, I wanted him already in previous clubs.

“Now he holds the ball more, he is more decisive, even in the last pass. And then he always scores, which is important for a forward.”

Conte touched on the situation surrounding Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen and his position in the squad.

“You’ve been focusing too much on Eriksen since last season. You keep emphasizing that. He is part of the squad, if he deserves it, he plays, if he doesn’t, he doesn’t play.

“It bothers me that I systematically have to talk about Eriksen and maybe not about others who were on the bench or played 10 minutes.”

Finally, Conte spoke about how he does not have any problems with the 28-year-old Dane.

“What problems? He is with us, there may be problems for the opponents. Sometimes he expresses himself better, sometimes he does not. Positive guy, we try to help him grow in intensity.

“And he is putting all of himself into that. But you can’t go from a discreet game to a failure, I don’t think it’s right for him, for me and for Inter.”

Inter’s win mean that they are now third in the league table after five games, two points behind rivals and league leaders AC Milan.
