Inter coach Antonio Conte discussed the Nerazzurri’s important 2-0 win over Genoa in an interview with Italian broadcaster InterTV after the game.
First, he commented on how the Milanese club dominated the game throughout and managed to keep a clean sheet.
“Absolutely. We dominated the game from the beginning, as we want to do. We managed to make our mark, it took us a while to score goals but we are happy.
“Let’s not forget that Genoa are a tough and well-organized team. I’m happy with the performance of the guys and the fact that we didn’t conceded any goals.
“We did not make mistakes, as we did against Borussia Monchengladbach when we paid for two mistakes. Now we have to catch up, the next match is in two and a half days, it will not be easy.”
The former Juventus and Chelsea boss then touched on how the new signings seem to have quickly integrated into the coach’s system and tactical plan.
“It is the proof that work pays off, I am referring mainly to Ranocchia here. He had an important game, from every point of view.
“For me it is the greatest satisfaction to be able to put the players in a position to play similar matches.”
Finally, Conte spoke about how the team approached the game and played against a very defensive Genoa side.
“This must be our strength, that of a team that believes in its own means. A squad that follows a very precise system, aware of the fact that building the goal comes first. We were good at the back, not giving anything to them.
“I consider it fundamental, I don’t think that we don’t have balance, but that we are improving what can be improved on an individual level. It’s a strange year, it’s not easy, we have to stay on top and keep working.”
Inter’s key win over the Rossoblu means that they have risen to third in the league table, after five games. Antonio Conte’s side now sits two points behind league leaders and rivals AC Milan, who face Roma on Monday.
The Nerazzurri’s next game is against Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday, before facing Parma next weekend.
The two goals were scored by defender Danilo D’Ambrosio and striker Romelu Lukaku.
