Vice-editor of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Andrea Di Caro, discussed Inter’s 2-0 win over Genoa yesterday in an editorial in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper.

“The most classic of results, 2-0, reached after a convincing second half. Inter best Genoa and find a win after two draws and the defeat in the derby.”

He commented on the various positive aspects from the game and squad.

“Several good things to report on the pitch. The defense, which never suffered, led by an excellent Ranocchia, the usual Lukaku guarantee, D’Ambrosio’s ability to enter.

“The devastating impact of Barella who changed the gear of Inter when he entered in place of an evasive Eriksen who instead continues to be a foreign body, especially if we consider the expectations after his arrival last January.”

The 28-year-old Eriksen, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2024, joined the Milanese club from Tottenham last January in a deal worth around €20 million.

The player struggled to adapt to coach Antonio Conte’s tactical system last season, managing to score four goals and provide three assists in 26 appearances across all competitions.

This season the Dane has not proven any more convincing, failing to contribute to a goal in five appearances and generally struggling to expend the energy requested by the 51-year-old Italian coach.

Inter are now third in the league table after five games, sitting two points behind rivals and league leaders AC Milan, who can extend their lead with a win over Roma tomorrow.
