Italian Journalist Mario Sconcerti: “Inter May Never Really Play Well But Still Think They’ll Win The League”

Italian journalist Mario Sconcerti analysed Inter’s 2-0 win over Genoa yesterday in an editorial in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Corriere della Sera.

“Inter may never really play well, but they still seem to me the best team to win the league. Because they have so many games in which they will go further because of their players.”

He highlighted the many options that Inter has, and how their squad depth could make the difference in a title race.

“Inter have imperfect but very wide physical, technical and individual possibilities. Something always happens when you have the chance to bring Barella and Hakimi in after one hour, Darmian is your wing-back and of course you have Lukaku as a striker.

“It is not too important to play well, it is important to pass the time and find a rhyme, even one.”

The Italian journalist noted how the Nerazzurri lose so little under coach Antonio Conte, putting them in a good position in a potential title race.

“The rest comes by itself. Inter loses very little, since Conte took over only five times in 43 league games. And nobody, except Napoli, have really strengthened among the best teams.”

He commented on a few of the top teams that have been struggling since the start of the season.

“Milan strengthened themselves in January. In fact, Lazio and Atalanta have already lost twice, even those who play good football have difficulty in finding consistency.”

Finally, Sconcerti noted how it is better for Inter to remain consistent and not look to turn up the jets just yet.

“Better a car that does not accelerate quickly but does not stop. It is the best way to proceed in the world of the virus.

“Unless Juve finds their perfection and Milan maintains it. In the meantime, I would look at Inter with less prejudice.”

Inter’s win means that they are now third in the league table after five games, sitting two points behind league leaders and inter-city rivals AC Milan, who can extend their lead with a win over Roma tomorrow.

The Nerazzurri are now looking ahead to their next game against Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday.
