Benevento coach Filippo Inzaghi spoke about the losses to Inter and Roma when speaking to gathered reporters in a press conference yesterday, ahead of the newly promoted side’s clash with Napoli. His words were noted by Italian media outlet FcInterNews.

“I hear a lot of talk. I think the only way to save Benevento is to play football. We only conceded goals from counterattacks, because we had players out of position because we wanted to score too much.

“We conceded avoidable goals against Inter and Roma. I hold on to what good we have done. If they said that Benevento does catenaccio, it would bother me.”

The Nerazzurri bested Inzaghi’s side 5-2 in their first meeting of the season at the end of last month. The Milanese club won 5-2, dominating possession and passing.

27-year-old Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku scored twice, with Roberto Gagliardini, Achraf Hakimi and Lautaro Martinez all also finding the score sheet.

Inter are now third in the league table after playing five games, sitting two points behind rivals and league leaders AC Milan, who can extend their lead with a win over Roma tonight.

Coach Antonio Conte is now preparing the squad for tomorrow’s Champions League clash against Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in Kiev, before the Milanese squad take on Parma this weekend.
