Inter central defender Alessandro Bastoni has followed in the footsteps of some of his teammates and Inter manager Antonio Conte by stating he feels that Inter deserved to win in tonight’s Champions League group stage game away to Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Nerazzurri dominated their Ukrainian opposition but could not capitalise on the multiple chances that they had in both halves of the game and as a result the game ended goalless.

“We deserved to win, that being said, we gained one point against a team that beat Real Madrid last week. If you can’t win it’s important not to lose,” he insisted in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia following the full time whistle in the Ukrainian capital at the Kyiv Olympic Stadium.

The highly rated Italian youth national team player then went on to speak about Inter’s next two Champions League group stage games that come against group favourites Real Madrid.

“This result doesn’t change anything for us, we always want to win regardless of the opponent. We’ll try to win against Madrid.”

The former Atalanta player then went on to share his delight with how he and his teammates defended in the match against Luis Castro’s Shakhtar Donetsk.

“We have two great strikers, this evening we hit the crossbar twice. It can happen that you do not score goals but I am happy with the solidity shown by the defence.”

This season Bastoni has made five appearances across all competitions to date and in his time on the park, which totals 371 minutes, he has provided a single assist for his teammates.
