Inter defender Stefan de Vrij has stated that whilst he is better about the result, he is not bitter with the way that he and his teammates performed in tonight’s Champions League group stage match away to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Inter had to settle for a goalless draw in the Ukrainian capital despite the fact they had a number of good chances to break the deadlock at the Kyiv Olympic Stadium against the Ukrainian powerhouses.

“There is bitterness for the result, not for the performance. We came here to win, we conceded little but in the end we didn’t succeed,” de Vrij explained in an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV following the full time whistle in the match.

The Dutch national team player was then asked whether or not he expected such a match after their meeting in August, which Inter comfortably won 5-0.

“Yes, in August they attacked more and paid for it so they changed things, they defended as a whole team. Despite everything we had the opportunities to win it but unfortunately we are here with a draw in hand.”

He was then asked about the team spirit in the Inter camp: “There is great team spirit, compared to the beginning there is more communication and balance.”

In conclusion the former Lazio player, who is in his third year with Inter, shared what he and his teammates’ intentions are for the upcoming match against Real Madrid: “We will go to Madrid to win.”
