Mauro Icardi’s sale helped cushion the blow of the financial impact of COVID-19 on Inter’s balance sheet according to a report from the online edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

Inter sold their former club captain to Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain in a deal that allowed the club to make a significant capital gain but despite the sale of the Argentine forward, Inter have still recorded a loss of around €100 million in the past fiscal year.

Inter’s board of directors meeting took place today as scheduled and at this meeting the financial statements for the 2019/20 financial year were certified ahead of next month’s Inter shareholders meeting during which the financial statements for 2019/20 will be approved.

The report from the Milan based news outlet goes on to add that Inter’s city rivals AC Milan have recorded a loss of around €195 million whilst Roma have recorded a loss of €204 million.
