AC Milan central defender Simon Kjaer has insisted that national team teammate Christian Eriksen has to play in his natural role in order for him to do his best.

Eriksen joined Inter in the most recent January transfer window from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur but has really struggled to perform to the level that he did for Spurs, where he was undoubtedly one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

Eriksen has found himself struggle for playing time as a starter since his arrival at Inter with more of his appearances coming off of the bench rather than as a starter.

The 28-year-old former Ajax player has made 31 appearances across all competitions to date for the Nerazzurri, in which he has scored four goals and tallied three assists for his teammates.

“I’m talking to him. Christian is a player I know very well and he is the best in the world in his role,” Danish national team player Kjaer explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, following last night’s 3-3 draw with Roma.

“He should play in his position but I’m not the one putting him onto the pitch. I still think he’s doing his best. I hope for him and for Inter he is well.”
