Inter manager Antonio Conte has admitted that he is disappointed with his side’s result in last night’s Champions League group stage encounter away to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Inter dominated the match at the Kyiv Olympic Stadium and created plenty of goal scoring chances but somehow failed to score at all and in the end they were forced to settle for a goalless draw.

“I think I must be disappointed with the final result because we created so many scoring chances and important chances, but at the same time we played against a team that was difficult to beat because they played defensively in the same way they played against Real Madrid,” he explained in an interview with European football’s governing body UEFA’s official broadcaster UEFA TV after the match.

The 51-year-old former Juventus and Italian national team boss went on to stress that he felt his team played well against Shakhtar Donetsk, who had beaten Real Madrid on the opening day of the group stage.

“Against Real they scored three goals on the counterattack, for this reason I think we played a good game in the possession and non-possession phase. We were focused on attacking but at the same time avoiding the counters of Shakhtar.

“But that’s okay, I think we deserved more than the final result but I congratulate Shakhtar because they are now at the top of our group with four points.”

Having drawn both of their Champions League group stage games to date, Inter find themselves sitting in third place in the group with two points, two points off of group leaders Shakhtar Donetsk. Real Madrid are up next for Inter in the competition.
