Inter manager Antonio Conte has taken a look at the positives from last night’s Champions League group stage match away to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Inter went into the match as big favourites against the reigning Ukrainian Premier League champions but despite all the goal scoring opportunities they had, they ultimately failed to score any goals and were forced to settle for an unexpected goalless draw against Luis Castro’s side at the Kyiv Olympic Stadium.

“There is a positive aspect, despite Shakhtar’s danger on the counterattack, this was the second game we finished without conceding any goals.

“I think that the path we’re on is the right one,” Conte explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset, following the match in the Ukrainian capital city.

The 51-year-old former Juventus and Italian national team manager added: “Shakhtar betrayed their characteristics as a team because we led them to do this.”

Conte is in his second year in charge of Inter after taking charge of the club in the Summer of 2019. He has managed Inter in 60 matches across all competitions to date and has led Inter to victory in 35 of these games.

Last season he led Inter to a second place finish in Serie A and the final of the Europa League, where they lost 3-2 to Sevilla.
