Italian football journalist Maurizio Pistocchi has slammed referee Georgi Kabakov for his failure to award Inter with a penalty in their goalless Champions League group stage draw against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Inter dominated the match against the reigning Ukrainian Premier League champions and had no shortage of chances but ultimately could not find a breakthrough against the side who they beat 5-0 in the semi final in last year’s Europa League.

During the second half of the match, Inter striker Romelu Lukaku was tugged to ground by a Shakhtar Donetsk defender but Kabakov failed to award the Nerazzurri a penalty, which Pistocchi believes was an obvious penalty to award.

Pistocchi took to social media platform Twitter and posted: “Shakhtar-Inter 0:0. Inter take home only one point after dominating the game and the chances, with many wasted scoring opportunities and the crossbar twice.

“Clear penalty on Lukaku not seen by the mediocre Bulgarian referee Georgi Kabakov, rookie in the Champions League.”

Due to the result and Real Madrid and Borussia Monchengladbach’s draw, Inter are sitting in third place in group B after two games played. Real Madrid will be Inter’s next opponents in the competition next week.
