Inter had to win last night’s match away to Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League group stage according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

Inter had no shortage of chances in the match in the Ukrainian capital and were very much unlucky not to score as they hit the crossbar twice and were also not handed a fairly obvious penalty by referee Georgi Kabakov at the Kyiv Olympic Stadium.

As a result of the goalless draw, the Champions League has already gotten complicated for Inter after just two matches in this year’s edition.

They have two points from a possible six and will face Real Madrid in each of their next two group stage matches, firstly away from home then at home.

The report from the Milan based news outlet goes on to label the first of the matches against Real Madrid as a playoff match.
