Inter manager Antonio Conte was expecting a difficult time in the Champions League but did not expect to find himself at a crossroads with Real Madrid according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
After two rounds of group stage action, Inter find themselves sitting in third place with just two points to their name after their matches with Borussia Monchengladbach and Shakhtar Donetsk, both of which Conte’s side were very much expected to win.
Real Madrid, who came into the group as huge favourites, very surprisingly sit bottom of the group with just one point to their name and this report claims that in all reality there will only be space for one of Inter and Real Madrid in the next round of the competition.
Real Madrid will play host to Inter next week and then in the next round of group stage action Inter will play host to Los Blancos with both of these matches holding a different importance to the one that they were otherwise expected to have.
