Former Real Madrid midfielder Adolfo Aldana has stated that tomorrow night’s Champions League match between his former employers and Inter is a match which both teams need points from.

Neither side have started as expected in this year’s Champions League group stage with neither side having won either of their opening two matches. Real Madrid are bottom of group B with one point and Inter are in third with two points.

“It is a very delicate match, because of the results from the first two match days, both teams need points,” he insisted in an interview with Italian news outlet FCInterNews.it.

Next he was asked whether it is still possible for both Real Madrid and Inter to make it to the next stage of the competition despite their poor starts in the group stage.

“It is difficult but not impossible. Of course, if one of the sides lose in Madrid, then they absolutely must win the next match at San Siro.”

He was then asked whether he feels the fact the match will be played at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium at Real Madrid’s training ground rather than their stadium the Santiago Bernabeu could be an advantage to Inter.

“This is a good question, but I will say no. What affects the players, and I say this from personal experience, is the fans.

“If the stadium is a pit you feel it. I still remember very well the full San Siro and its effect. Now this is not possible for obvious reasons but if I were a Real player today I would prefer to play at Valdebebas, precisely because I know the turf and all the related details perfectly, given the various training sessions.”

Aldana, who also played for Deportivo La Coruna, Espanyol and Merida during his 14 year playing career, then proceeded to share his thoughts on Inter.

“I see them as the Atletico Madrid of Italy. Their players have the character of their own coach. Conte has the same charisma as Simeone and the results have already been seen. They are certainly a very dangerous team.”

In conclusion he was asked if there is a particular player among Inter’s ranks that he has a particular admiration of.

“Alessandro Bastoni. He is a very strong centre back. Since Sergio Ramos cannot take the field in all matches and Varane is not always at the top I tell you this, the Italian defender could easily play for Real Madrid.”
