Standard Liege defender Noe Dussenne has shared his hopes that his teammate Zinho Vanheusden’s injury is nothing serious.

During Standard Liege’s Belgian Pro League match versus K.V Oostende yesterday, Vanheusden appeared to land awkwardly on his leg and let out several piercing screams and was quite clearly in severe pain.

The highly rated young defender had to be carried off of the pitch at Stade Maurice Dufrasne by a stretcher and Dussenne has stated that he hopes it is nothing serious for his fellow defender.

“His knee was swollen and the doctors told him to go home. He will do tests to see what has happened. I hope with all my heart it is not such a bad thing,” Dussenne explained to broadcaster Eleven Sports, following on from the match, in which he scored a late winner for the home side.

“It is terrible for boys like Bokadi or me. I didn’t even dare go see, because I know what it’s like to see someone scream like that with knee pain. You already know what it is especially when you’ve been through it. This victory is for him.”

Vanheusden is a product Standard Liege’s youth academy but was signed by Inter Primavera and sold to Standard after a successful loan spell.

Inter do however maintain an option to buy him back which expires this coming Summer. This season the 21-year-old, who is Standard Liege captain, has made 13 appearances across all competitions to date.
