Legendary Inter captain Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Bergomi has shared his analysis as to why Inter find themselves in a difficult situation in both the Seire A and the Champions League.

Inter drew their opening group stage match 2-2 with Borussia Monchengladbach and followed that up with a highly frustrating goalless draw away to Shakhtar Donetsk in their second match in group B.

Antonio Conte’s Nerazzurri side are due to face Real Madrid in each of their next two group stage matches, two matches that hold an importance different to the one expected.

Rather than the matches being important for who will win the group, the matches will be important in determining who finishes last given both sides poor starts in the competition.

“Inter finished the season last of all, they had little time to prepare and have had to deal with COVID cases,” Bergomi explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, yesterday afternoon.

“You play the Europa League on Thursday’s but you have a group stage that is much easier. Now with the Champions League you have one game after another and this brings them to be more out of breath.”

Bergomi, who spent his whole career with Inter, was then asked whether Lukaku is more important to Inter than Zlatan Ibrahimovic is to Inter’s city rivals AC Milan to which he responded: “Who is more important between Ibra for AC Milan and Lukaku for Inter? I am inclined to answer the Belgian.”
