Italian football journalist Sandro Piccinini has admitted that he understands why Inter manager Antonio Conte was angry with striker Lautaro Martinez following on from Saturday’s 2-2 draw at home to Parma in Serie A.

Conte was very angry with the highly rated Argentine national team striker post-match. Not only did Lautaro’s struggles in front of goal continue but he was also at fault for Parma’s first goal.

The 23-year-old was dispossessed around the half way line by Parma but rather than make any sort of attempt to get the ball back, he simply stopped which allowed the ball to be played up the pitch and onto the foot of Gervinho, who gave the visitors the opening goal of the game.

“Conte was very angry with Lautaro for the first goal that Inter conceded, where he did not try to get the ball back. Conte talked about the mistakes in the attacking phase, but the Argentine did nothing to go and get the ball back, it’s an attitude that has angered the coach and I understand why,” Piccinini explained whilst present in Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia during their ‘Sky Calcio Club’ show.

This season Lautaro has made seven appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored three goals and provided  a single assist.
