Former Real Madrid and Inter striker Ivan Zamorano has shared his belief that there is no favourite in tonight’s match between two of his former employers in the Champions League group stage.

Neither Real Madrid nor Inter have started like they were expected to in the Champions League this term with neither of them having won either of their first two matches in the competition.

Heading in to tonight’s match at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium, Real Madrid are bottom of the group with just one point whilst Inter are in third place with two points.

“I think the match will be a draw, I don’t see a favourite,” the former Chilean national team player explained in an interview with La Repubblica, which appeared in today’s print edition of the Italian daily newspaper.

He proceeded to sing the praises of Inter striker Lautaro Martinez and drew some similarities between himself and the highly rated Argentine forward: “Toro, like me, is not tall but he is mentally strong.”

As part of the interview, Zamorano also reflected on Inter’s 3-1 win over Real Madrid back in 1998, a match in which he scored.

“What a night, there were too many emotions. I felt affection for real but my present and my heart were Nerazzurri. We won the match with courage and determination and with the game plan of Gigi Simoni, whom I will love forever, and the genius of Baggio.

“If Inter can repeat the feat? In the Champions League, everything is possible. Games are not won by history or a clubs badge. Real and Inter, who were favourites for the group, have enormous difficulties. Today will be a great match. Upon returning to San Siro, it will be life or death.”
