Inter club captain and goalkeeper Samir Handanovic has shared his belief that he and his Nerazzurri teammates deserved more from their match against Real Madrid.

Despite a rather poor start that saw them 2-0 down by around the half hour mark, Inter rallied round and restored parity thanks to goals from Lautaro Martinez and Ivan Perisic.

Inter had chances to put themselves ahead but could not capitalise on them unlike Real Madrid, who scored a late winner through second half substitute Rodyrgo.

“We recovered from 2-0 down and got it to 2-2, we continued to play and the perception on the pitch was that of being able to win,” Handanovic explained in an interview with European football’s governing body UEFA’s official broadcaster UEFA TV, following the match in the Spanish capital.

“Unfortunately we did not take advantage of our two chances and on a counterattack whilst they took advantage of their opportunity. For what we did, I think we deserved something more.”

Following last night’s result, Inter find themselves at the bottom of group B at the half way point of the group stage but are far from down and out. Inter are just three points off of group leaders Borussia Monchengladbach with nine points still to play for.
