Inter club captain and number one goalkeeper Samir Handanovic has revealed that there is a lot of biterness following Inter’s 3-2 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League group stage.

Inter fell behind 2-0 but were able to go into the half time interval trailing by just one thanks to a great strike from Lautaro Martinez. Inter then equalised shortly after the hour mark but could not get another goal nor could they hold on as Rodrygo scored what proved to be a winner for the hosts with about 10 minutes left.

“There is so much bitterness, we got back into it and we also wanted to win it, the feeling on the pitch was that it could be done,” Handanovic began an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia following the full time whistle at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium.

“We have had many opportunities, the episodes have made a difference in this match. In the box they were better and already incisive.”

The veteran Slovenian shot-stopper was asked what, if any, positives Inter can take from their performance against Los Blancos.

“In wins and defeats, there is always something positive to take, but we have to become more determined, because we really felt that we could’ve won it and that is not the first time we’ve experienced this situation.

“I think we were on a par with Real Madrid, even superior for long periods, but the difference was they were more determined.”

This result has put Inter bottom of group B at the half way stage but they are no means down and out with just three points separating them and group leaders Borussia Monchengladbach
