Inter now face an uphill battle to qualify for the next stage of the Champions League according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

If the group stage was to end now, not only would Inter not be in a position to qualify for the last 16 but they would also not even be in a position that would see them drop into the Europa League as they currently sit bottom of group B at the half way stage.

After two draws to start the group stage against Borussia Monchengladbach and Shakhtar Donetsk, Inter followed that up with a defeat to Real Madrid last night and the report claims that Inter are bound to have some regrets for the way the game went.

Inter managed to recover from 2-0 down and had chances to win the game 3-2 yet were unable to capitalise on them, unlike Real Madrid.

One of the biggest regrets Inter will have is the absence of the injured Romelu Lukaku, who would have kept the opposition defence under pressure and caused them problems with his physicality. Another regret Inter will have is their defensive ingenuity in the match.
