Inter manager Antonio Conte has decided to take a positive outlook on Inter’s defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League group stage tonight.

Inter fell 2-0 behind but managed to bring the game back to 2-2 thanks to goals from Lautaro Martinez and Ivan Perisic. In the end Inter could not see the match out though as Real Madrid youngster Rodrygo came off of the substitutes bench and scored a winner for the hosts with about 10 minutes left.

“The result leaves a bad taste in the mouths of me and the lads,” Conte began an interview with Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset following the full time whistle at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium in the Spanish capital.

“These matches show that there is growth, I don’t know how many other teams would be able to come here to Madrid, put a game back on track after conceding two goals and then lose it.

“In my opinion these are steps that this team is taking, I really liked the mentality of the team that wanted to play the game. The results are not rewarding for us at the moment, but these performances must give the boys confidence and desire to be a respected team in Europe.”

He was then asked if he could explain the three goals that his side conceded during the match.

“There is little to explain about a back pass, even if for me there was a foul on Hakimi at the first goal. Then we let ourselves be mocked by Sergio Ramos. We have to improve in the details, as were are penalised in certain situations. We are thwarted by these little things.”

In conclusion he was asked if it is still possible for his side to make it to the next round of the competition, despite the fact they currently sit bottom of group B at the half way point of the group stage.

“There are still nine points to play for. We knew this was the most difficult Champions League group, but in these three games we will do everything to get to the next round.”
