Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has admitted that he and his teammates did everything that they could to try and win their Champions League group stage clash away to Real Madrid.

Inter made things difficult for themselves as they fell 2-0 behind but thanks to Lautaro and Ivan Perisic, Antonio Conte’s side were able to restore parity between the two sides and Inter pushed for a third goal but were unable to get one, unlike Real Madrid who got one through substitute Rodrygo.

“Was the overall performance good? Yes, but that’s not enough. We did everything to win it but something is missing, there is no other explanation,” the highly rated 23-year-old explained in an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV following the match at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium.

“Now we have to think about Serie A, we have a difficult game in front of us and then the international break. We will have to give our best.”

He was then asked how it feels to have scored against both Barcelona and Real Madrid and continued to look ahead t Inter’s next Serie A match.

“This makes me happy, but I think about the team and the collective performance tonight. When a goal is scored, I am happy because it’s my job, but if you don’t win it’s useless. So I’m not happy today, now we have to think about Atalanta, it will be a difficult match.”
