Noted Italian football journalist Mario Sconcerti has slammed Inter, especially the defence, following their 3-2 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League last night.
Inter fell behind 2-0 but managed to draw themselves level thanks to goals from Lautaro Martinez and Ivan Perisic. The Nerazzurri had chances to take the lead but failed to do so whilst Real Madrid took one of their late chances, which allowed them to win the game at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium.
“Inter played their Italian game, they found themselves two goals down almost without realising it. In this football during the time of the virus, everything is soft and just as silently they got back against Real,” he began his analysis of the match, which was published in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera.
“It was a game that was over if there hadn’t been another serious error from the Inter defence that freed Rodrygo.
“It is too easy for Inter’s attacking midfielder to be overcome, there are continuous errors from that midfielder, continuous uncertainties with regard to the position of the defenders, it is as if they needed an extra teammate to cover the pitch.”
Sconcerti then went on to add that he felt there were portions of the game that felt like it was a pre-season friendly rather than a game in the Champions League between Real Madrid and Inter.
“To be honest, for many minutes the match went on with the tempo of a summer friendly. It was two teams in difficulty, made up of great players aware of their limits, always cautious.”
He then took a look at Real Madrid’s first goal, which came as a result of a poor back pass from Achraf Hakimi, which Karim Benzema capitalised on.
“It was a serious mistake by Hakimi which is the correct picture of Inter, where there is no defence. Hakimi is in the middle of the field, he makes a mistake, but between him and Handanovic there are thirty metres in which there is no one.
“There is the historic void of this new year, the real ghost. Nobody wants to rush Inter, but they have seven points less in the league and are last in the Champions League.
He then went on to share his belief that Inter have not grown or improved: “There is no growth, there are no improvements and there is no real contribution from the new players. Could Conte tell us his impression of the start of the season? Is it wrong to say that there is no future?”
