Noted Italian football journalist Luigi Garlando has shared his belief that Inter have not taken the necessary leap in quality that they needed to this season after their performances last season.

Inter have not started the season all that well and are currently on a run in which they have won just one of their last seven matches across all competitions.

Heading into this weekend’s Serie A action, Inter are in sixth place, five points off of league leaders AC Milan. They are also currently sitting bottom of their Champions League group at the half way stage.

“Inter are a team in the balance, yesterday there was a performance but this team is unable to demonstrate superiority with the result. It means that there are problems and that last step is missing,” he began his column which was published in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

“There is solidity on the pitch but this growth is not perceived and that last leap that had to be made from last season has not been made. It is unacceptable that Inter have not found quality players in the midfield over the years and a greater attacking battery.”

Garlando then went on to share his views on Inter central midfielders Arturo Vidal and Radja Nainggolan.

“Vidal is the symbolic player, who for his experience and depth has to give you something more, instead he does not accompany the team in this growth and is very wrong. Nainggolan? Seeing him come on in that condition before Eriksen is the consecration of a failure.”

In conclusion Garlando discussed Inter manager Antonio Conte and how the former Italian national team boss appears to have changed.

“Last year’s Inter was more natural and Conte-like. Instead Conte is no longer Conte, neither on nor off of the field, he seems anesthetised, as if after that 25th August he had come to terms and compromises.”
