Real Madrid’s first goal last night against Inter should not have stood according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The hosts’ goal came from a poorly weighted back pass from Inter wing-back Achraf Hakimi, which Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema got on the end of before rounding Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic before slotting it home.

However, just before Hakimi played this back pass, Gazzetta dello Sport are certain that the Moroccan was fouled by Real Madrid full back Ferland Mendy, who had both of his hands on his back and pushed him.

Despite one of referee Clement Turpin’s assistants being just a few metres away, he reported nothing to Turpin and the goal stood but it shouldn’t have.

The report from the Milan based news outlet goes on to add that the seven yellow cards that Turpin dished out were corrected and a sign of a tough match played between the two sides.
