Former Inter director Ernesto Paolillo has shared his confidence in Inter manager Antonio Conte despite the Nerazzurri club’s less than desirable start to the 2020/21 season.

Inter have won just three of their first nine games across all competitions to date this season and have won just one of their last seven matches.

Such form has resulted in them slipping to sixth place in the Serie A standings and they are also sitting at the bottom of their Champions League group at the half way point of the group stage.

“Conte is good and charismatic, he will be able to remedy the difficulties of Inter, which do not depend only on him,” he explained in an interview with Italian radio station Radio Sportiva, earlier on today.

“This Inter has surprised me due to the number of goals that they concede, they are not a team who can win the Scudetto.

“Conte is an intelligent and capable person, he has no reasons for distrust or to go to war with the club owners. If the results do not arrive he pays, so it is right that he pursues his ideas. I am convinced that he has done many positive things and it is not his fault that Lukaku failed in the decisive matches.”

Paolillo, who was a director at Inter between the mid 2000s and early 2010s, proceeded to discuss Christian Eriksen and his continued struggles at Inter: “He didn’t suddenly become bad because he changed teams. It’s up to the coach to solve the problem.”

In conclusion he spoke on the need to play games despite the current circumstances given the global COVID-19 pandemic for financial reasons.

“The economic needs of clubs mean that games have to be played at any cost. It is not nice for the fans and for the overall show, but there is no alternative, we have to get by.”
