Inter youngster Lorenzo Pirola has revealed that his loan switch to Monza was something that came about very very quickly.

The highly rated Italian youth national team player, who is widely regarded as one of Inter’s best young prospects, was loaned to the newly promoted Serie B club for the duration of the season and he has explained that a phone call from Monza’s Adriano Galliani sold him on a move to the club.

“In reality I shouldn’t have left the Nerazzurri, it all happened on the last day of the transfer market,” he explained in an interview with Italian news outlet CalcioMercato.com.

“Conte wanted to keep me in the team, but at the last minute he told me that for my growth it would have been better to go out on loan from Inter and I accepted that.

“Monza and other Serie B clubs wanted me, but this club’s project convinced me. Galliani’s call was a source of great pride for me and even if I know it will be difficult to carve out a space for myself, I will always work to the maximum.”

He was then asked what it meant to him to be able to train alongside Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij and Diego Godin at Inter last season.

“There’s always something to learn from players of their level. I always work to the maximum and with great humility. I had a wonderful relationship with them, they gave me advice and helped me. I still keep in touch with them, they were happy for me when I made my debut.”

In conclusion he was questioned on his Inter first team debut, which he made near the end of last season away to SPAL.

“I remember it very well. To be honest, sooner or later I expected to make my debut, because I have always been attached to the first team.

“During that game, I told myself that maybe that could have been good at a time since we were winning 4-0. In fact, as soon as he told me to warm up I knew that I would get on, I had a mix of many emotions. For me, as an Inter fan, it was special to be able to make my debut with the team.”

Since joining Monza, the 18-year-old who is contracted to Inter until 2025, has made just one appearance across all competitions.
