Legendary Italian football manager Marcello Lippi has shared his belief that just two of the 20 teams competing in Serie A this season are currently playing well.

After six games played in the league, AC Milan are somewhat surprisingly at the top of the Serie A standings whilst some of the pre-season favourites to do well are lagging behind the Rossoneri club, who are sitting on 16 points from a possible 18.

“Fiorentina are an excellent team, made up of very good players. Callejon has a career that speaks for itself, he spent many years in Naples playing great football, scoring many goals. Bonaventura is an excellent player, as is Amrabat who I consider to be very strong,” Lippi began an interview with Italian news outlet Fiorentinanews.com.

“It is clear, however, that when you change a lot, especially in one department, it takes time to find the right balance. For the rest, neither Inter nor Juventus have found the recipe to win. There are only two teams that are playing very well today, namely AC Milan and Sassuolo. Atalanta are also having some problems.”

72-year-old Lippi has managed some of Italy’s top clubs including both Inter and Juventus and he has also managed the Italian national team on multiple occasions, during one of which he led the Azzurri to World Cup glory.

He managed Inter for just over a year and took charge in 1999. He led Inter to a fourth place finish and the Coppa Italia final in his first season in charge but was sacked after a poor start to the following season.
