Former Inter defender Zinho Vanheusden’s return to the Nerazzurri from Belgian side Standard Liege could be postponed by a season due to his knee injury, according to a report from Italian media outlet FcInterNews earlier today.

The report details how the 21-year-old Belgian centre back, who is contracted to Standard Liege until 2023, tore his ACL last weekend, an injury that will essentially rule him out for the rest of the season.

Inter and the Belgian side have a gentleman’s agreement regarding the player’s return to Milan, but that transfer could be delayed by one season, for the player’s sake.

So far nothing has been determined for certain, but the idea could be realised as it would give the young defender another season to develop and progress in a first team environment.

Disappointingly for Vanheusden, he is incredibly unlikely to feature now for Belgium in next summer’s European Championships, frustrating considering that he only made his debut for the senior team last month.
