Former Lazio and Palermo coach Delio Rossi discussed Inter’s sluggish start to the season in an interview with Italian media outlet TuttoJuve.com yesterday, as reported by Italian media outlet FcInterNews.

“The topic is very simple. Inter do not have players with the right characteristics to play with three at the back. If we go to see their work in the market and the value of the players in squad, their level is very high.”

He highlighted how the Nerazzurri’s inter-city rivals AC Milan are currently at the top of the league table after six games, sitting five points ahead of Antonio Conte’s Inter, who are in sixth.

“Milan compared to the others are focusing on young players, other teams have preferred to rely on 34-year-old players. Honour and merit to the club and the coach, who are doing very well.”

The Nerazzurri started the season in exciting fashion, with a 4-3 comeback win over Fiorentina and a 5-2 thrashing over newly promoted Benevento. The first stumble came against Lazio in a 1-1 draw in Rome, before the first international break.

After that break, the Nerazzurri suffered from multiple positive cases of Covid-19, reducing their squad’s strength ahead of a painful derby loss to rivals AC Milan.

The Milanese club beat Genoa in the league but drew against Borussia Monchengladbach, Shakhtar Donetsk and Parma, before losing to Real Madrid in the Champions league earlier this week.
