Former Lazio and Torino goalkeeper Luca Marchegiani discussed the recent controversies surrounding VAR in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster Radio 24 yesterday, on the show ‘Tutti Convocati’.

“There are the tools for the referee to be helped. Referees can make mistakes, I’m less accepting of when VAR makes a mistake and doesn’t help the referee, like I saw both in Milan-Roma and Inter-Parma.”

Inter dominated Parma in their 2-2 draw at the end of last month, having 25 shots compared to the Gialloblu’s five.

Despite this, Antonio Conte’s side struggled to find the back of the net and even found themselves 2-0 down after 62 minutes, before Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic managed to claw one back.

Minutes later, Croatian forward Ivan Perisic was fouled in the box by a Gialloblu defender, but protests for a penalty were waved away by the referee, with Italian defender Andrea Ranocchia even being booked for his troubles.

Croatian forward Ivan Perisic managed to find a winner in the dying minutes of the game, securing a bitter point for the Nerazzurri, who felt like they had deserved to win the match.
