Inter striker Romelu Lukaku will not start against Atalanta today as the Nerazzurri do not want to risk further injury, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

The report details how the 27-year-old Belgian forward, who is contracted to the Milanese club until 2024, suffered a left thigh muscle injury in the side’s 0-0 draw against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League last month, forcing him to miss the last two games.

The player has almost fully recovered from the injury, but he is not at 100% yet and coach Antonio Conte does not want to risk any further injury to the Belgian by starting him against Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta today.

Lukaku will be on the bench and could be deployed in the second half, with Lautaro Martinez and Alexis Sanchez likely to start up front.

The former Manchester United forward has scored seven goals in seven appearances so far this season. He has been called up by the Belgian national team for the upcoming international break.
