Alessandro Bastoni could be drafted into the Italian national team in place of the injured Alessio Romagnoli according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

Italian national team boss Roberto Mancini has a 39 man squad for the Azzurri’s upcoming three matches but two of these players in Angelo Ogbonna and Romagnoli are injured and as a result, he could call up one, maybe two, central defenders, and Bastoni could be that one or one of the two.

If Bastoni is called into the squad, he will join Inter teammates Roberto Gagliardini and Nicolo Barella and he could potentially make his debut for the Italian national team.

Italy are due to face European minnows Estonia in a friendly in two days time ahead of playing their final two UEFA Nations League group stage fixtures with Poland and Bosnia & Herzegovina, which will be played on November 15 and November 18 respectively.
