Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has revealed that the club managed to lower Inter’s demands for Mauro Icardi when they completed his signing on a permanent basis back in May.

Icardi joined Paris Saint-Germain on a season long loan from Inter for the 2019/20 season and as part of the deal there was an option to buy in place worth a rumoured €70 million however Leonardo has revealed that they spent €50 million on the former Inter captain.

“There was the possibility of having him on loan and then everyone agreed about buying him. We managed to lower the price,” Leonardo explained in a question and answer session with PSG fans.

“Right now he is not in form, it happens, but maybe in five years we will say that he has been important for the club and I think he has already been important last season.”

The Brazilian, who formerly managed Inter, also dismissed the rumours in the media that Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel did not want nor like Icardi.

“Why spend €50 million for a player who doesn’t fall within Tuchel’s plans? I don’t think that is the case.”

Icardi joined Inter in the Summer of 2013 from Sampdoria and in 219 appearances across all competitions for the club, he scored 124 goals and provided 28 assists for his teammates.

Since joining Paris Saint-Germain, the 27-year-old has made 38 appearances, in which he has scored 22 goals and provided four assists.
