Brescia sporting director Giorgio Perinetti has shared his confusion with regard to why Inter attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen has not performed like he was expected to since his arrival at Inter.

Eriksen joined Inter in the January transfer window of last season and has very much struggled to live up to expectations that everyone had for him.

The 28-year-old Danish national team player has appeared to struggle with the tactics in place at Inter but even when tactics have been changed to suit him, his struggles have continued.

“Eriksen has important qualities, he is an excellent player. However, he is failing to express them. I don’t know if it’s the league he can’t adapt to or Inter, but everyone expected something different from him,” Perinetti began an interview with Italian radio station TMW Radio, which was broadcast earlier on this evening.

Perinetti then went on to speak about what he and others were expecting to see from the former Tottenham Hotspur player, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until the end of the 2023/24 season.

“We thought we would see a classic, whimsical playmaker who solves the toughest match for you with a classy play but he is not this type of footballer.

“He has excellent technique, is a quick thinker and is an excellent set piece taker and can shoot from outside the box but he is not a classic number 10.”

In conclusion Perinetti explained: “I’m not saying he’s not a suitable player for Conte, he’s simply a different player from what the collective imagination expected.

“He could become a good central midfielder, but he has no matchmaking skills. He lives in limbo and that is condemning him to playing a supporting role.”

Eriksen has made 33 appearances since joining Inter, in which he has scored four goals and provided three assists for his teammates.
