Udinese midfielder Rodrigo de Paul has stressed that whilst happy and comfortable in his current surroundings, he has ambitions, which include playing in the Champions League, and has admitted that he does not know what could happen with him in the future.

de Paul has been a consistent performer for Udinese since joining them and has often found himself linked with a whole array of bigger clubs than the Bianconeri, including Inter, yet he has stayed loyal to Udinese.

“Here we have the things that make us happy. We don’t need that much. This city welcomed us from day one, made us parents,” he explained in an interview with Argentine news outlet La Nacion.

“They seem like small things, but the way the hospital in this city treated my wife and daughter is very important to me. We have our restaurant where we spend Christmas, our places to walk, even my wife has her routine.

“The club made me feel important from the start, giving me a super iconic shirt for Udinese. They helped me to play for the Argentine national team, they allowed me to play at the Copa América alongside the best player in history.

“Those things create bonds that are difficult to break, it would be very difficult to be somewhere else as comfortable as I am here but I like challenges, I like growing up.

In conclusion he stressed: “I want to play the Champions League, I want to play at a World Cup. I prepare myself every day for this, so I don’t know what can happen in the future.”

The 26-year-old, who joined his current employers back in the Summer of 2016 and is contracted to them until 2024, has made 154 appearances across all competitions since his arrival, in which he has netted 26 goals and tallied 27 assists for his teammates.

This term the former Valencia player has made eight appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored one goal and tallied two assists.
