Italy’s three biggest daily sports newspapers were all left feeling rather indifferent about Inter midfielder Roberto Gagliardini’s performance for Italy in last night’s international friendly win over European minnows Estonia.

Gazzetta dello Sport gave the former Atalanta player a rating of six out of 10 for his efforts at Fiorentina’s Stadio Artemio Franchi and said the following about his performance: “He suffered when paired with Tonali and lost some duels in the first half. In the second half he showed more courage and forays forward, leaving the playmaking to Pessina.”

Corriere dello Sport also gave Gagliardini a rating of 6/10 and added: “This type of match, with Estonia all behind the ball when two goals down, required a different attitude from him.

“He should have been more resourceful, but in the first half the Inter player limits himself to controlling things in his sector. In the second half he earns a penalty with a run into the Estonian box.”

Tuttosport meanwhile gave the 26-year-old a rating of just 5.5 and had the following comments on his performance: “He has not yet recovered the fluidity he showed at the end of last season, proof of this is the approximate touches and some errors when choosing to try and tackle. He got a penalty more for stumbling than for a foul by Tunjov.”

Gagliardini joined Inter back in January 2017 and is under contract with the club through to the end of the 2022/23 season.

Gagliardini, who has made seven appearances for the Italian national team, has made five appearances across all competitions to date this term for Inter.

In his time on the park, which totals just over 200 minutes, Gagliardini has managed to score one goal and provided a single assist for his teammates.
