Former Juventus left back Antonio Cabrini has shared his thoughts about Inter’s midfield following the Nerazzurri’s worse than expected start to the 2020/21 season.

Inter came into this season largely expected to challenge from the beginning but things have not went to plan with the Nerazzurri currently sitting down in seventh place in the standings after seven games played.

Inter have won just three of their opening 10 matches across all competitions to date and have won just one of their last eight games.

Like last season, there has also been an over reliance on Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez to deliver with the pair having been involved in no less than 65% of Inter’s goals scored so far this season.

“Attackers who stand out and others who don’t score? The dog is chasing its own tail in the sense that two important forwards like Lukaku and Lautaro.”

“They have impacted the team’s performance, emphasise that Inter are not 100% there in the middle of the park,” Cabrini explained whilst present in the studios of Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, yesterday afternoon.

Cabrini, who was the manager of the Women’s Italian national team between 2012 and 2017, went on to add: “When you are not 100% there, you can’t help the attackers in the box and you don’t defend yourself in a certain way.

“The midfield must grow. It is a job that Conte will have to do. In order to achieve success, the midfield’s behaviour is essential.”
