Inter defender Milan Skriniar has shared that it was a difficult moment for him after he scored an own goal in last night’s EURO 2020 play off final clash away to Northern Ireland.

Skriniar’s Slovakia were just minutes away from winning the match 1-0 before he put the ball into his own net which forced extra time at Windsor Park.

Slovakia would go on to score in the second half of the game and win 2-1 and in an interview with Slovakian news outlet Sport, Skriniar has said there was a lot going through his head when he scored the own goal.

“It was a very difficult moment for me, that’s for sure. A lot of things went through my mind after that unfortunate moment but over time, people may not even remember it,” he began the interview.

He then spoke on what he did at the end of the game which allowed him to re-focus ahead of extra time: “I must say that it also helped me a lot that the coach gave me a lot of information right from the start. I needed a moment for myself during the break before extra time. I got back into the game and continued to help the team.”

He concluded: “I’m happy, things like this don’t happen every day. Our names will always be remembered as ones that have succeeded.”

Skriniar, who joined Inter back in the Summer of 2017 from fellow Serie A side Sampdoria, has made three appearances this season for Inter but has failed to make any goal contributions.
