Chile coach Reinaldo Rueda discussed the team’s 2-0 win over Peru and the contributions of Inter’s Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez in an interview with Chilean news outlet La Cuarta after the game.

“All wins are very important. Chile have shown that they are growing and improving their game, the team respected the opponent.

“Especially the youngsters who had the weight to replace historical names like Eduardo Vargas and Alexis Sanchez, we have a supportive and aggressive team.”

He commented on the recent controversy related to Nerazzurri forward Alexis Sanchez, who the Milanese club did not want to lose through injury this break.

“We had talked about his physical condition, both with Alexis and the medical staff. We wanted him for 15 or 20 minutes, he came in at an opportune moment.

“He had gone through a very demanding warm-up phase. The important thing was to give him continuity and minutes without risk.”

Finally, Rueda spoke about how Vidal congratulated goalkeeper Claudio Bravo for a strong save at the end of the first half, despite their relationship not being a particularly friendly one.

“I think it’s football. This is the nobility of Arturo, the maturity and professionalism of Claudio, which goes beyond the differences that existed at one point.

“It is the commitment to the shirt, to the Chilean flag. We must always applaud the character and personality of the two.”

The 31-year-old Sanchez, who is contracted to Inter until 2023, has made seven appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 251 minutes. In that time, he has provided two assists, almost scoring on a number of occasions.

The former Arsenal star has suffered from an injury this campaign, which forced him to miss three games, and so the Nerazzurri were not keen for Sanchez to feature heavily for Chile in this international break.
