Legendary AC Milan midfielder Demetrio Albertini has shared his belief that AC Milan are deserving leaders in Serie A at this early stage of the season.

The Rossoneri have shocked many with the way they have started the season and they currently lead the way in Italy’s top flight with 17 points from their opening seven games and are one of three clubs still unbeaten.

“It is an anomalous championship, but it is for everyone,” Albertini explained in an interview with Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, which appeared in yesterday’s print edition of the Milan based news outlet.

“AC Milan deservedly lead. I see a logic in their journey, there is continuity with what they started to show back in January and with the quality and balance found after the first lockdown.”

Albertini proceeded to share his thoughts on two sides who have very much underperformed this season compared to what was expected of them in reigning champions Juventus and last season’s runners up Inter.

Juventus are currently sitting in fifth place in the Serie A standings, four points adrift of AC Milan. Inter are meanwhile down in seventh place and are trailing their city rivals by five points.

“They both have huge potential, but both of them are in difficulty. And since those who can manage difficult times win, this can already be a crucial phase for them.”
