Inter defender Aleksandar Kolarov was the one to decide that he would not feature against Scotland for Serbia earlier this week, according to a report from today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

The report details how coach Antonio Conte openly addressed his players and invited them to take greater responsibility for their own fitness whilst on international duty, hoping to reduce the amount of injured or fatigued players that return to Appiano Gentile.

Kolarov made a professional choice to miss out on the Euro 2020 play-off against Scotland earlier this week, due to his shaky physical condition. The coach, Ljubiša Tumbaković, tried to get him to play to no avail.

The former Roma and Manchester City full back was forced to miss the league clash with Atalanta before the international break due to muscle problems, and so did not want to exacerbate them in this international break.
