Manchester City are set to provide competition to Spanish sides Real Madrid and Barcelona in the race to sign Inter striker Lautaro Martinez, according to a report from Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo earlier today.

The report details how the Citizens, under the guidance of coach Pep Guardiola, are looking for a long-term replacement for talismanic forward Sergio Aguero, whose contract expires with the English side at the end of the season.

Barcelona were incredibly keen to sign Lautaro this transfer window, but failed to pay his €111 million release clause before the deadline, and they couldn’t convince Inter with a variety of offers.

City believe that Lautaro could be the perfect replacement for Aguero, the report continues, and so have entered the race to sign the 23-year-old Argentine striker.

Lautaro is currently in talks with Inter regarding a new contract, and is waiting to see how serious the English side’s interest is.
