Monza right back Franco Lepore discussed the friendly match against Inter earlier this week in an interview with Italian media outlet TuttoMonza.it yesterday.

“Yesterday I was the captain of the team, D’Errico and Fossati were absent and it was my turn, it is always emotional to wear the armband and play against Inter.

“I had a good duel with Young in the first half, it was a nice duel when I had him as the opponent’s captain, and in the second half against other opponents.

“To be against these strong and important players is an additional incentive to compete against great champions, it was nice.”

The 35-year-old Italian full back, who is contracted to the Serie B side until the end of the season, then touched on the team’s ambitions for promotion and which other teams in Serie B worry him.

“For us the primary thing to do is to go to Serie A, it is a dream we have, a declared goal, it would be great to face these teams again in the top league. For us it must not be anxiety but a stimulus to do more and more to achieve the goal.

“Opponents? I was impressed by Empoli, who have a prepared coach and strong players, Lecce and also Spal.”

Inter beat Monza in the friendly win on Friday, with the goal coming from Primavera forward Franco Carboni in the second half.

Coach Antonio Conte has been training with the remaining squad members this week, giving the squad a rest today ahead of a return tomorrow.

The coach will have to make do without Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic for the next game against Torino, after the 27-year-old tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday.

Brozovic is the 8th Inter player to test positive for the virus, frustrating Conte, who seemingly never has a full strength squad at his disposal.
