Roma defender Gianluca Mancini discussed the Covid-19 pandemic and the title race in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

“It’s a difficult time for everyone, in the world of football and in the real world, where so many people are suffering, so many people are gone. We’re trying to be careful and continue our football path.”

The 24-year-old Italian commented on the title race and the fight for the top four spots in the league.

“We all know that it is a strange, peculiar season. Injuries and Covid-19 will decide the final positions. Juve have changed coach and a lot of players, Roma thinks match to match and playing as best as possible.

“Our goal is to stay in the top four and qualify for the Champions League, in a league like this you have to stay on the ball and stay focused.”

Inter are currently 7th in Serie A after seven games, sitting on 12 points, one behind rivals and reining champions Juventus, who are in 5th.

The Nerazzurri started the season well, with wins over Fiorentina and Benevento, before they dropped points to Lazio in a tense 1-1 draw.

The squad then started to suffer from injuries and multiple positive cases of Covid-19, leaving them with a reduced strength squad as they lost to AC Milan in the derby.

Since the loss to the Rossoneri, Antonio Conte’s side have only won one of their last six games across all competitions, and have not won a single game yet in the Champions League.

In Europe, Inter have drawn Shakhtar Donetsk and Borussia Monchengladbach and lost to Real Madrid.
