Inter and Denmark national team attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen has admitted that yesterday’s UEFA Nations League clash against Iceland was a tough one for him and his teammates.
Eriksen scored a penalty early on in the match and Iceland scored very late on and it looked like both sides were going to take a point each from the match before Denmark were awarded another penalty in injury time, which Eriksen slotted home to secure a 2-1 win for Denmark.
“It was a tough match, with many duels for each ball,” he explained in an interview with European football’s governing body UEFA, as quoted by FCInterNews.it.
“It was a match between two tactical teams, in the first half they waited for us and we created some chances by keeping the ball a lot.
“In the second half we had a little more intensity, we were more aggressive, without creating much. We were also a little lucky to score at the end.”
The former Tottenham Hotspur player then went on to speak about the match with Belgium, which will determine the winner of UEFA Nations League League A group 1.
“It is very important, it would be a nice thing for a country like ours to be the first in League A with teams like Belgium, England and Iceland.
“We have to be proud to have created the possibility of playing this final with Belgium. It is a match we want to win, we want a rematch after the defeat of the first leg. It will be a good match, we can show what we are worth.”
In conclusion the 28-year-old, who joined Inter in January, spoke on the reasoning behind his celebration which saw him put the ball under his jersey: “I think it’s obvious what it was referring to. My partner is pregnant with our second child, when I scored at Wembley I forgot about it.
“Because I was thinking about other things. I didn’t warn her that I would celebrate like this.”
