Alessandro Bastoni’s exponential growth in the past year or so comes very much down to Inter manager Antonio Conte according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Il Giorno.

The highly rated central defender made his first team breakthrough at Inter last season and has recently made his debut for the Italian national team and followed that up by keeping Robert Lewandowski quiet in his second appearance for the Azzurri.

Bastoni has cemented himself as one of the best young defenders out there at the moment and as per this report, things could have went very differently had it not been for Conte.

The report explains that Conte forced the club into keeping Bastoni whilst they felt it would be best for Bastoni if he were to go out on loan again to continue his development as a player.

This season Bastoni has made seven appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has tallied one assist.
